About the Founders

John Kent and Tom Hynes started this initiative in January 2006. Born and raised in the small town of Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada both founders understand the importance of community and stretching a dollar. Being two young, working professionals with strong opinions and beliefs this website arose from numerous challenging and “lively” brainstorming sessions.
Early on both founders recognized the value in this website and believed that in today’s economy with the ever increasing costs of gas and utilities, home ownership, travel, groceries, etc., the need to spend wisely has rarely been as crucial to a family’s survival.
